Term Server Monitor (TSMON)

TSMON is software that runs on our servers. It  monitors all connections, the number of dial-in lines in use, and how long each person has been connected to the server. TSMON is used to ensure that all the dial-in lines are rotated during busy periods, and that everyone gets a fair go at surfing the Internet. It will only come into effect after a set period of time and only if the following conditions are met:

  1. 95% of all incoming lines must be in use.
  2. The person concerned must be the one who has been logged in for the longest period of time.
  3. The person concerned must have been logged in for a minimum of 3 hours or more.
  • If you are disconnected by TSMON, you must wait a full 15 minutes before attempting to re-connect to the server.
  • If you attempt to connect again before the full 15 minute period has expired, you will be disconnected.
  • You are free to log in again after the full 15 minute period has expired.

15 Minute Latency Period

When a client is disconnected from our system by the "TSMON" , they must wait at least 15 minutes before reconnecting. If the client rings back within this 15 minute period they WILL be disconnected.

Timed Clients

Clients who are time charged are limited to the number of prepaid hours that they have paid for. The server will automatically disconnect time charged clients when their prepaid time has run out. Usually they can ring back and log into the system but will be disconnected in less than 1 minute if they have no time left. Please check to ensure you have time left on the system.

Clean Up The Telephone Line

If you have any equipment connected to the same phone line as the modem then remove it. Some modems, particularly the high speed modems, require very clean phone lines to work and other electrical equipment may cause line noise or even lower the voltage of the phone line. A classic example of this is the older TF200 touchphones. These phones have a capacitor that needs to be recharged every 15 to 20 minutes, and if attached to the same phone line as a modem will cause it to disconnect by dropping the voltage on the line. Therefore, disconnect any telephones and faxes from their sockets before using the modem.

Set The Modem Baud Rate Correctly

Listed below are the baud rates that you should have your modem set to:

  • 56K - 115200

  • 36.6K - 57600

  • 28.8k - 38400

  • 14.4k & slower - 19200
The baud rates listed above are a guide only. It may even be necessary to slow down the baud rate to 19200 for 28.8k modems because of noise on some phone lines.

Call Waiting

If you have the Telstra call waiting installed on your phone system then it may be necessary to disable this feature. This is the function that gives you the sound beeps while you are talking on the phone and someone else is trying to ring you. The sound beeps are noise on the phone line and can cause modems to disconnect.

Modem Type

Installing the Standard 28800, 33600 or 56000 bps modem instead of the brand that the modem wizard detects and installs for you can alleviate some problems, particularly ones relating to strange modem initialisation strings.
